Sherman Canal Residence
Located on the Venice Canals, this multilevel speculative residence was designed with an interior reminiscent of an artist loft, with soaring volumes and honesty of materials and finishes. The exterior massing centers around the main building block, which is articulated by a Mondrian-esce composition of alternating, plaster surfaces and voids of glass. On either side of this main block, smaller components help transition the building mass of the center block. On the alley side the aesthetic is more defensive with access only to the Garage. On the canal side the defenses are down with corners of the building erased by use of expansive corner windows and disappearing glass doors blurring the distinction between inside and out.
