Moen Residence

Located in the forest near Ashland, this property abuts Forest Service land and affords tree-filtered views of the town of Ashland and the valley below. This multi-level residence terraces up the side of an existing wooded slope of pine and madrone trees. The home is organized along a spine or fuselage, in the form of a retaining wall, which physically supports the hillside, and the structure as well as serving as a circulation element within the building. The Owners interest in airplanes and flying helped provide conceptual inspiration for the residence, as seen in the tapered roof eaves and supports as well as the Entry Tower/Office, which is reminiscent of a rural airport control tower.
